Alisa Hamilton Research & Translation

My name is Alisa and for as long as I can remember I have loved words, research and foreign cultures.

My business allows me to put all these interests together to meet my clients’ information and translation needs.

Academic EXcellence

I got my first job in a library when I was in high school and followed that love of helping others find the information they needed all the way to receiving a Master of Library and Information Science degree from San Jose State University, one of the most respected programs in the field in the US. In recognition of my academic excellence I was invited to join Beta Phi Mu, the honor society for library and information professionals, upon my graduation.

Professional Experience

Starting in the information profession at such a young age allowed me to gain many years of valuable general research and reference experience in the public library setting before moving on to the challenges of being a law librarian for one of Silicon Valley’s most prestigious law firms. While there, I honed my skills in successful business, news, industry and legal/government research in a demanding, fast-paced environment that required a high degree of excellence – skills I now use to meet my clients’ varied research needs today.

I believe that staying abreast of current developments and trends in my chosen fields allows me to offer the very best service to my clients. This is why I am proud to belong to both the Association of Independent Information Professionals and the American Translators Association.

And then there was Denmark

In between these endeavors I lived in the beautiful fairytale land of Denmark and fell head-over-heels in love with the Danish language, people and culture. I have now been fluent in Danish for nearly 30 years and I have passed the Danish Ministry of Education’s most advanced exam for foreign speakers of Danish. While currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, my love for and interest in all things Danish flourishes and I feed it by keeping abreast of Danish culture and media through reading, podcasts, Danish television and regular trips back to what I feel in my heart is my second home.

I now use my language skills and in-depth cultural knowledge to serve my translation clients, providing them with clear and natural Danish-into-English translations entirely appropriate to their needs and target audience.

Elsewhere

When not researching or translating, I indulge my lifelong love of arts and culture and love spending time with my two energetic young sons. It probably goes without saying that I love to read!
